Happy Boxing Day! For those who celebrate, I hope you had a Merry Christmas. Like so many, this holiday we missed loved ones both nearby and far away who we could not be gathered with this year. Although it was a “Zoom” Christmas, we still managed to take the moment to be grateful for good health when we have it, and the miracle, joy, and magic of Christmas!
While many things about the Christmas season this year were changed, one bright point has been a collaboration with San Francisco Ballet and carrying on our family’s annual tradition of Helgi Tomasson’s Nutcracker from home. Earlier this week the full painting was revealed in San Francisco Chronicle Datebook (see A year without ‘Nutcracker’: Fans adjust to the loss of an annual tradition). Thank you to Tony Bravo for the great article capturing so beautifully what this annual tradition means to its fans!
Additionally I was delighted to reveal a film I made of the process of making the commemorative watercolor, my own “Godfather Drosselmeyer” or “Sugar Plum Fairy” creative moment, which can be viewed on @SFBallet Instagram or San Francisco Ballet Facebook. I’m grateful to SF Ballet for the beauty and joy that they bring to the community through their art, and it’s the best Christmas gift for me to be able to share in the joy and magic of Nutcracker and bringing it to Boys and Girls Clubs in the Bay Area in collaboration with the San Francisco Ballet Fund!
Don’t miss the online production and the opportunity to support the San Francisco Balelt Nutcracker Fund between now and December 31st!:
