How 'Bout Them Apples?
September 2022
Window to The Bay #28
Happy Friday! Have you ever placed a grocery order for 10 apples and 10 BAGS of apples showed up? That happened at Laura Ann Studio this week - oops, my mistake! But as I like to say when I’m teaching the sometimes unpredictable nature of watercolor, you can turn the unexpected into a “happy accident.” To start, my husband took a few bags to his morning exercise group and seized the moment to share a snack and some extra post-workout community time with his buddies. The remaining apples are a perfect excuse to cook up some of my favorite tastes of fall: cinnamon spiced applesauce, hot apple cider, apple tart, and apple muffins to share with our new neighbors. Speaking of which, Laura Ann Studio is excited to announce that we have moved to the Presidio, a national park situated on the San Francisco Bay where views of the scenic waterfront of the Golden Gate Bridge abound! My office desk is truly situated now at my very own Window to The Bay! So while September has come and gone filled with packing and unpacking, and I was disappointed when I realized that our annual family tradition of fall apple picking may have slipped through the calendar this year, we have apples! And better yet, a community with whom to share them!
A South Bay, California Family Watercolor House Portrait Birthday Gift and Holiday Card
I wanted to share this sunny fall California palm tree lined watercolor house portrait along with the season of back to school, as my mind connects red apples with teachers, school, and kids biking, scooting, and tricycling to and from their homes and community schools! I loved painting this home portrait for a family who is excited to have found and purchased their “forever home.” Their kids’ tricycle and scooter represent the stage of life of their family upon moving in, in anticipation of the many warm family memories to come. It was extra special to paint the portrait for a couple for whom I had previously painted a watercolor wedding house portrait painting and invitations. It was wonderful to work with them again and see how their family has grown, as the husband surprised his wife with a custom painting of their new home as a birthday gift. The timing of the fall painting commission was just right to turn the painting into the cover of their “we’ve moved” holiday cards!
With love for the every day and special days,
Laura Ann Trimble Elbogen
P.S. Would you love to gift yourself a watercolor portrait at the holidays to put on the front of your holiday card? Laura Ann Studio’s holiday commission list is now open! Share this post as a holiday gift hint to your loved ones!
