An “Archtober” Window to SoHo
October 2021
Window to The Bay #17
Happy Halloween! Have you had a good Archtober? As today marks the close of the 11th annual Archtober Architecture and Design Month in NYC I feel like a proud mom watching how it has grown since my time running programs at the AIANY/Center for Architecture. When I received this commission to paint a watercolor house portrait as a birthday gift, I did a double take - it’s a West Broadway SoHo building with Franklin Bowles Galleries on the ground floor, right next door to the West Broadway Scavolini showroom where we hosted the Archtober launch party with Architecture and Design Film Festival and Elle Decor in 2011! I’ve always loved the grand windows of SoHo’s historic cast iron architecture. I was transported to great memories of those NYC design days!
Large Format Watercolor Home Portraits
A custom west broadway, new york watercolor house portrait as a birthday gift from husband to wife.
This painting is the first of several larger format 11”x15” watercolor house portraits that I have painted over the last year as a new offering to the “Window to The Bay” product line. Capturing the family’s car parked on the street, the lights on in their windows, and the mom and daughter out front made it uniquely theirs. I love how the stroller scene captures the phase of life when the family lived there. The toddler daughter loved to face forward in the stroller to people watch and wave hi to folks. I don’t blame her for not wanting to miss a beat on those chic SoHo streets!
