Happy Friday! And Happy Summer! Summer is here, and with it the hope of more travel and sunny days ahead spent with family and friends. I enjoyed a road trip to Southern California with my family earlier this month when school let out. Taking meals outside under umbrellas, and plein air painting the colorful beach umbrellas gave me that happy taste of the start of summer!

Capturing the Details of a Custom Built Home

The bright red patio umbrella of this Flagstaff, Arizona home draws the eye into the beautiful patio of a custom home situated with outdoor living spaces to enjoy the forest and mountain views to the fullest. From the gardening can, to the owners bikes, and the added touch of an opened umbrella, it has that feeling of happy rest and relaxation after all the hard work of bringing the dream of a custom home to a reality. The owners worked hard with their design team (Aude Stang, Architectural Design Studio and Ian Hublitz, Green Mountain Construction) to make the design and construction as sustainable as possible. A tandem watercolor front door portrait captures details of the natural, earth friendly design - from the beautiful stonework on the chimney to the custom metalwork, not to mention the fun added touch of artful lizards strategically affixed to the facade. Other personal touches include the family heirloom doorbell, the ski bear sculpture, and the happy pooch greeting the owners home from work. Cheers to summer in the mountains sitting under a patio umbrella!
