Keep on Swimming (or Painting)

Window to The Bay #5

Happy Friday! I passed a new mural on a boarded up restaurant this week when I was walking through the neighborhood on a mission to drop off a painting commission at UPS - in bright and bold graphics it cheered "keep on swimming."

Do you or a family member or colleague know the unique challenges of online distance learning? Earlier this month I proudly posted my son's smiling first day of kindergarten pictures and his newly carved out school space in the corner of Laura Ann Studio. What I didn't post was the big emotions before and after school in the days that followed (I'm not talking about his). There's no doubt that the new mode of schooling has an impact on the productivity of working parents, especially moms, and yet we are all doing the best we can to keep on swimming.

August brought celebrations of empowerment for women, the #womensupportingwomen online movement, the celebration of 100 years since the legal right of women to vote, and National Breastfeeding Month. On a personal note, Laura Ann Studio has celebrated one year since the soft-launch of Window to The Bay watercolor house portraits at a San Francisco Compass event. I want to give a big thanks to the women and men who have supported my woman owned small business with watercolor house portrait painting commissions over the past year. In the spirit of #womensupportingwomen, I want to give a special shout out to Spade & Anchor Creative and Alison Yin Photography, woman owned businesses which I have delighted in collaborating with to bring the Window to The Bay brand to life. This photograph encapsulates these wonderful relationships coming together.

As Labor Day approaches, take rest, then keep on swimming, or in my case keep on painting. I'm now open for holiday pre-orders and will be capping new commissions come late fall. I would be delighted to hear from you.

With love for the every day and the special days,
Laura
